Job Description This is a key senior administrative role within the University.
The successful candidate will provide support to the DPO/Information
Compliance Manager on all areas of information compliance including data
protection, freedom of information, access to information on the
environment, records management, etc.
Duties Specific to the Role ? The appointee may be assigned to any of a very wide range of areas or
activities carried out in the University, in any of its campuses.
? Appointments at this grade would have responsibility, under very
general direction only, for a large section or area of the University?s
activities. The jobholder may have a large, multilevel staff and would
be ultimately responsible for almost all the decisions taken in the
section or area. He/she would normally be directly responsible to a
member of the management team.
? Alternatively, an appointee could be assigned to a job involving the
provision of high-level administrative support, requiring a thorough
understanding of the overall workings and policy of the organisation.
The jobholder would work under very general direction only and his/her
recommendations or decisions would normally make a major
contribution to the shaping and implementation of policy within the
organisation. The job may also involve the collection and collation of
complex material and the preparation of reports and submissions.

team or to a senior officer.
? The job could involve access to and processing of significant
confidential information and would involve regular contact with students,
staff, the public and organisations and individuals at all levels where

of Information and Communication Technologies and appointees will be
expected to use new techniques and technologies as they arise. The
University will provide the necessary training as appropriate.
Following appointment, the appointee will be assigned to a particular
location and post. The University may operate a number of different
locations in addition to the main campus. On assignment to the particular
post, the University will provide a detailed list of duties and responsibilities
applicable to the post.
The broad areas of responsibility of the specific post include:
? Processing statutory requests under FOI, Data Protection and AIE
legislation to ensure that they are dealt with efficiently and effectively in
line with legislation and best practice guidelines.
? Providing support and guidance to Decision Makers, Reviewers and
Senior Management on the application of relevant legislation.
? Supporting functional areas in undertaking and maintaining up-to-date
records of processing activities (ROPAs).
? Developing and maintaining the ATU Records Retention Schedule.
? Auditing data retention policies and practices within ATU to ensure that
they are fit for purpose.
? Providing advice and guidance to staff on compliance with the GDPR.
? Assisting with DPIAs by reviewing proposed or existing processing
activities to identify gaps in compliance and the associated risks.
? Ensuring the existence of GDPR-compliant third-party contracts and
review of same to ensure contracts meet relevant legal and regulatory
requirements.
? Implementing and updating policies, procedures and best practice
guidelines for compliance with DP and FOI legislation.
? Advising staff on best practice with regards to data sharing, in-house
between departments or with external parties.
? Assessing data breaches in a timely manner, escalating serious
breaches as appropriate.
? Maintaining ATU?s information compliance webpages.
